Why turning app into subscription?

I dont know if the publisher is taking us for fools or going the take it or leave it route.

This book is a small pocket reference worth $20-30. Why would anyone want to pay $30 A YEAR for this?

Want to charge for upgrades, sure. But to cut access after already having paid?? Absolutely not!
